The Chancellors Scholarship of Sunway University and Lancaster University
MEET KASHVEENY!
I am Kashveeny, a recipient of the Chancellor’s Scholarship for the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence.
Growing up in a diverse Malaysian environment, I was exposed to different perspectives that shaped how I view education, not just as academic success, but as a pathway for growth and social mobility. Since childhood, I have always had an interest in problem-solving and technology, which later developed into a passion for data and artificial intelligence.
When I began my Foundation in Arts (FIA) at Sunway, my goal was clear: to grow myself and strengthen my chances of securing a scholarship. I actively took on leadership roles and participated in student initiatives in pursuit of that goal. Yet along the way, it became much more than that. Through volunteering at open days and information sessions, I discovered how meaningful even small interactions could be. Seeing students and parents leave feeling reassured and more confident, showed me that impact often begins in simple moments of support.
Being chosen as valedictorian during my Sunway Foundation In Arts programme was one of the most memorable moments of my journey. Standing on stage, I had the opportunity to thank those who had supported me, especially my family. Seeing their smiles and how proud they were made everything feel worth it, and reminded me that my journey was not mine alone, but something we had all worked towards together.
My experience in FIA played a significant role in preparing me for the Chancellor’s Scholarship, not just in terms of skills, but in how it shaped my mindset. Through taking on leadership roles and being actively involved, I began to realise I was capable of more than just academic success, and that I could contribute meaningfully beyond the classroom. This gave me the confidence to pursue opportunities like the Chancellor’s Scholarship, and a clearer sense of purpose in what I want to achieve and contribute.
Receiving the Chancellor’s Scholarship is both an honour and a responsibility. As the first student to receive the Chancellor’s Scholarship for the BSc (Hons) Artificial Intelligence programme, I see this as an opportunity to grow in a field that is constantly evolving. I hope to deepen my knowledge in AI and apply what I learn to real-world challenges that can benefit wider communities.
My journey at Sunway has been empowering. It's a place where I feel challenged yet supported, where each step forward feels like progress toward not just a degree, but meaningful growth.
To future students, stay curious and persistent, and don’t be afraid to take on challenges that feel unfamiliar. Most importantly, remember that recognition is not just about awards, it's about the consistent effort you put into learning, improving, and inspiring others along the way.
