I’m Praveena Chandran, a proud Sunway graduate and recipient of the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation Scholarship, whose journey has been shaped by resilience and gratitude.

​

From a young age, I understood that education was not just about personal success, but it was my way of supporting my family and creating stability for our future. Financial challenges were always present, and I knew that if I wanted access to quality education without burdening my parents, I would have to earn it through dedication and hard work.

​

I pushed myself relentlessly throughout school, as I was determined to open doors through merit. Through that, I was able to achieve straight A’s in my SPM examinations and receive the Sunway Special Scholarship. This changed everything. While it covered 50% of my tuition fees, its impact went far beyond finances. It lifted a heavy weight from my family and gave me the peace of mind to pursue my dream of studying at Sunway with confidence.

During my Degree, I was further blessed to be awarded the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation Scholarship, which strengthened my resolve to continue striving for excellence and reminded me that hard work truly opens doors.

​

At Sunway, I chose not only to learn but also to serve and contribute. I began my leadership journey in the Sunway Foundation Programme Student Committee and later served as President, co-leading one of the programme’s largest events, the Talent Fiesta of the Year. During my degree, I continued serving in the Sunway Business School Student Concilium for three years, eventually becoming President and later Student Advisor. These roles taught me that leadership is rooted in service, integrity, and consistency. I led initiatives, represented the student body, and mentored future leaders, which has allowed me to give back to a community that had invested in me.

During my final year, I lost my father. It was a period that completely shattered me. Balancing hospital visits and final examinations was extremely challenging. Yet my father’s unwavering belief in me became my strength. I persevered not only for myself, but for him.

​
